Sega's mech-battling sim arrives on the PS3 with Armored Core 4. An unofficial retelling of the series' original story, the game puts players in the role of a mech pilot working with the resistance against the forces currently oppressing humanity. The planet has been enslaved by a group of large corporations, who rule the common people with an iron fist. But thanks to a dedicated group of rebel mech pilots, humanity has a chance. Will this ragtag bunch of metal-piloting gearheads save the day, or get crushed beneath the machinations of corporate evildoers?
Like the previous entries in the series, Armored Core 4 contains a lengthy single-player game, which charges the player with completing up to 35 missions filled with metal-scraping, mech-busting action. Play gets deeper, however, thanks to the inclusion of a simulator which allows players to face off against up to 40 unlockable characters. Those seeking more dynamic opponents can take their game online, with up to eight players competing in team play or deathmatch modes. The power of the PS3 benefits the Armored Core play mechanics greatly. Besides improved visuals and interactivity, players can now customize their mech down to the tinest details. Decals, paint jobs, and cosmetic changes are plentiful, as are upgrades that can improve your mech's performance, and more importantly, your mech's firepower. |
